Christine Mowat, President of Wordsmith Associates, has designed and instructed eight different programs, including Written Communications, Improving Legal Writing, and Managing Your Reading. Carswell published her book, A Plain Language Handbook for Legal Writers in 1999. She has also published over 25 articles, and co-edited a textbook, Native Peoples in Canadian Literature.

Christine has instructed at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Management Executive Development Program, the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta, and the Banff Centre for Management.

One of her publications, "A Plain Language Audit on The Decline and Fall of Gobbledygook" for the Canadian Bar Association, reflects her interest in plain language theory and practice for legal writers. An article, "Do Universities Breed Illiteracy?" in Queen's Alumni Review analyzes failings in academic writing. A two-part article, "Buddhists, Running, and Plain Language in Calgary", published by the Michigan Bar Journal, is a corporation case history of how one client successfully integrated plain language into its communications.

Christine, as Chair of Plain Language International (PLAIN), opened the 2002 PLAIN conference in Toronto and speaks regularly at conferences and professional meetings.
