Managing Your Reading

(2-day workshop)

Both a developmental and speed reading course, this workshop provides research-based testing and practice to produce more efficient and confident business readers. Most participants increase their speed by 40-60%.

Who should attend:
Professional, technical, managerial or supervisory personnel who:
bullet wish to improve their reading speed and comprehension
bullet face an ever-growing backlog of reading on the job
bullet are unskilled in critical reading
bullet have to reread frequently
bullet experience reading fatigue and anxiety
bullet are interested in sharpening all related reading skills

Key topics:
bullet debunking popular myths about speed reading
bullet practising reading strategies to develop speed and flexibility (including anticipation frameworks, mapping, summarizing, skimming, scanning, critical analysis, notetaking, organizational patterns, memory, and concentration)
bullet evaluating speed and comprehension changes through pre- and post-tests
bullet learning how to be an active reader by being selective and efficient
bullet improving graphical literacy

Special features:
Participants bring their own work-related reports (or other materials) for daily timed readings. This practical feature allows participants to catch up on their own work reading.

Ninety Minutes Live is an evening activity that allows group members to complete a whole book in one hour using techniques taught. A comprehension test demonstrates participant improvement.

The practice reading articles are business-based, drawn from international sources, and chosen for appropriate readability levels.

We discuss eight different purposes for reading.
